The recipe you are looking for is called Fattigmand. My grandmother makes
this too. This is not her recipe but is one I found in her church's cookbook.
4 egg yolks
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 2/3 cups sifted flour
1/4 t. salt
1/4 to 1/2 t. cardemom (to suit taste)
Beat egg yolks until light. Add whipped cream and sugar and beat well. Add
flour, salt, and cardemom. Chill dough several hours. Roll small amount of
dough at a time to a little less than 1/8 inch thickness (thinner if you
like). Cut in 1 x 3 inch strips with pastry wheel, cutting ends diagonally.
Make a lengthwise slit in the center of each strip, and pull one end through.
(Special cutting rollers are available in Scandinavian delis.) Fry in hot,
deep fat (350 degrees) until lightly browned, turning once. Drain on paper
towels. When cold, sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
